It is a water soluble vitamin which can be found in foods like orange, guava, green peppers, red peppers, papaya etc. It can be supplemented but being a water soluble vitamin, it may be taken multiple times a day in smaller doses to be effective. It is generally believed that it helps to relieve colds and flu symptoms, and boosts body’s immune system. Some people use it for other infections including gum disease, acne and other skin infections, bronchitis and stomach ulcers. It is also used for infections of the bladder and prostate. Other uses include increasing the absorption of iron from foods. Generally 1000 mg to 2000 mg doses of vitamin C supplementation is taken daily and considered safe.
